Funeral Services For Wilbur Placek

Funeral services for Wilbur W. Placek, age 93, of Creighton, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. Jaquie Samway, PMA, will officiate, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton.

Military Honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1151, American Legion Post 74, and the United States Army Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.

Wilbur died Friday, April 3, 2015, at Avera Creighton Care Centre.

Wilbur W. Placek, son of Joe and Mary (Hansen) Placek, was born December 26, 1921, in Springfield, South Dakota. Wilbur graduated from Creighton High School in 1939. After graduation, Wilbur served in the United States Army and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. Wilbur was united in marriage to Edna Suhr on November 25, 1951, at Christ Lutheran Church in Bazile Mills, Nebraska. Together they had three daughters: Lorinda, Ardyce, and Janet. 

Wilbur farmed west of Creighton, Nebraska, until he and Edna moved to town in 1987. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1151. Wilbur was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. He served on the Zion Lutheran Church Council and the Election Board for several years. Wilbur was still active canning, baking, fixing fence, and cutting cedar trees. He also loved to go fishing. 

Wilbur is survived by his three daughters, Lorinda and Galen Hoferer of Sioux City, Iowa, Ardyce and Dale Fuchtman of Creighton, Nebraska, and Janet and Ray Naprstek of Creighton; eight grandchildren, Dustin Hoferer and Lindsay Laflan, Brandon and Erin Hoferer, Grant Hoferer, Lisa (Fuchtman) and Kelly Mauer, Sara Fuchtman, Alison (Naprstek) and Adam Pavelka, Chelsea Naprstek and Vanessa Naprstek; and twelve great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his parents; and two great-grandsons.
