Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Shirley died Friday, October 20, 2017, at Alpine Village in Verdigre.

Shirley Jane (Tichy) Wavrunek, daughter of Albin and Rose (Kotrba) Tichy, was born October 13, 1927, at Niobrara, Nebraska. She attended District 6 rural school and Niobrara High School. On August 21, 1946, Shirley was united in marriage to Leonard Wavrunek, at United Methodist Church in Verdigre. They were blessed with three children, Allen, Dean, and Pam.

Shirley lived in the Verdigre and Niobrara areas all of her life. She worked on the farm alongside her husband. Even with all the hard work that went into farming, Leonard and Shirley found time to dance, garden and fish. They celebrated their 25th Anniversary in 1971, 50th in 1996, and 60th in 2006. In the spring of 2009, Leonard and Shirley both became residents of Alpine Village. After their sale in July they moved to the Assisted Living.

Shirley is survived by her children, Allen (Irene) Wavrunek, Dean (Diana) Wavrunek, Pam (Jerry) McClellan all of Verdigre; grandsons, Jason (Cammi) Wavrunek of Crofton, Jesse (Keri) of Sioux City, IA, Jeremiah (Stephanie) McClellan of Verdigre, Dustin (Jessica) McClellan of Omaha, and Tyson (Liz) McClellan of Verdigre; step-grandson, Cory (Gina) Sandoz of Wayne; 20 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Charlotte “Lottie” Randa of Verdigre; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; grandsons, Anthony and Billy McClellan; sister, Georgia Crowl; and brothers, Reuben Tichy and Don Divis.
