Funeral Services For Ruth Wagner

Memorial services for Ruth Wagner, 91, of Norfolk, will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk. Reverend Dan Andrews will be the celebrant, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton, Nebraska, following the luncheon.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in Norfolk, with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary.

Ruth died Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Ruth M. Wagner, daughter of J.C. and Bessie (Smith) Stacken, was born June 28, 1924, at Osmond, Nebraska. Ruth lived her young, adult life north of Creighton, Nebraska. She married Herman Opkis on December 23, 1941. They lived on a farm southwest of Bloomfield, Nebraska. To this union two children were born: Lonnie and Kay. He passed away in June of 1963. Ruth and family remained on the farm. On October 29, 1966, Ruth was united in marriage to Hans Wagner. She took many classes through Northeast Community College in Norfolk to improve her education. They lived in Bloomfield, Nebraska until 1991, when they retired and moved to Norfolk, Nebraska. Ruth was a volunteer at Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Norfolk for 12 years. She was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk and Altar Society. Ruth was a member of American Legion Auxiliary of Bloomfield.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Hans of Norfolk, Nebraska; children, Lonnie Opkis of Norfolk, Kay (Jim) Abbenhaus of Bloomfield, Nebraska, and Charles (Cindy) Wagner of Juniata, Nebraska; grandchildren, Joe and wife Andrea Abbenhaus and their children, Tyler, Kylie, and Eric, Jeff and wife Debbie Abbenhaus and their children, Kristen, Cody, Kasi, and Madison, Traci and husband Terry Gall and their children, Sydney and Logan, and Nicole and husband Tyler Pratt; sister, Luella Veenker of Creighton; and sister in-law, Fern Goodman of Creighton.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herman; her parents; great-granddaughter, Lexus Abbenhaus; sister, Alice Lange; and brother, Jim Stacken.
