Funeral services for Ronald Cook, age 88, of Verdigre, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orchard, Nebraska. Reverend Marcel Kohlmeyer will officiate, with burial in Hope Enterprise Cemetery in rural Orchard.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton, Nebraska, with an 8:00 p.m. Prayer Service.

Ron died Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Avera Creighton Care Centre in Creighton.

Ronald LaVerne Cook, son of Orval and Louise (Block) Marshall Cook, was born December 29, 1929, at Walnut, Nebraska. He attended District 18 School until the eighth grade, and then attended Verdigre High School, graduating in 1947.

Ron was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where, at the age of four, he met a girl named Carol Marie Pierce. He told his brother that he was going to marry that girl. Ron and Carol attended Sunday school, were confirmed, and attended high school together. On September 23, 1951, they were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Ron spent his life on the farm except for the time he spent in Korea with the United States Army during the Korean War.

Ron and Carol were blessed with twelve children: Kathryn, Alice, Charles, Mary, Ruth, Martha, Janet, Rachel, Nellie, James, Patty, and Penny.

Ron is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Kathy Weber (Leo) Specht of Towner, Colorado, Alice Fritz of Waco, Nebraska, Charles (Marjorie) Cook of Verdigre, Nebraska, Mary (Paul) Menter of Lincoln, Nebraska, Ruth Cook of Verdigre, Martha Cook of Norfolk, Nebraska, Janet (Kent) Hollman of Grand Island, Nebraska, Rachel (Steve) Boyer of Marengo, Illinois, Nellie (Nathan) Ristvedt of Utica, Nebraska, James (Lisa) Cook of Verdigre, Patty (Kenny) Cope of Lincoln, and Penny (Brian) Meyer of Seward, Nebraska; 38 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Arne Pierce and Larry Pilar; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Pierce.

Ron would frequently ask his grandchildren “What was the best thing I ever did for you?” Everyone knew the answer was “married Grandma.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Louise Cook; parents-in-law, Frank and Mary Pierce; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred (Anne) Marshall and Richard (Marlene) Cook; brother, Ben Marshall; sister, Merleen Pilar; sons-in-law, Larry Weber and Allen Fritz; granddaughter, Melinda Ristvedt; brother-in-law, Dean Pierce; and sisters-in-law, Roma Ham and Doris Meyer.

Memorials may be designated to St. Paul Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Hour.
