Funeral Services For Opal Whitney

Funeral services for Opal Whitney, age 92, of Bloomfield, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Christ Memorial United Methodist Church in Bloomfield. Reverend Trudy Hanke will officiate with burial in Bloomfield City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Opal died Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society in Bloomfield.

Opal Mae Whitney, daughter of Fred and Katie (Mayberry) Magdefrau, was born October 26, 1922, at Niobrara, Nebraska. Opal attended country schools near the family home. On July 21, 1941, Opal was united in marriage to Glen E. Whitney at Center, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with six daughters: Jean, Janet, Donna, Carol, Shirley, and Sharon. Opal and her family lived on various farms in Knox county. She was a member of Christ Memorial United Methodist Church in Bloomfield, Nebraska.

Opal is survived by her daughters, Jean Bargman of Bloomfield, Nebraska, Janet Koenig of Winnetoon, Nebraska, Donna (Dennis) Woods of Norfolk, Nebraska, Carol (Jon) Ermels of Randolph, Nebraska, Shirley (Harlan) Burgardt of Timken, Kansas, and Sharon (Randy) Prochaska of Waterbury, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and sister Ina Mae Tichy of Niobrara, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Whitney; parents, Fred and Katie Magdefrau; brother and his wife, Donald and Lula Magdefrau; sisters and their husbands, Erlene and Dean Custer, Berla and Ellis Tilton, and Lois and Tony Netherda; brother-in-law, Harry Tichy; son-in-law, Ronald Bargman; grandson, Donald Bargman; great-grandson, Andrew Wilson; and great-granddaughters, Ava Bargman and Riley Prochaska.
