Funeral services for Leonard Prochaska, age 85, of Creighton, Nebraska will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. Reverend John Nelson will officiate, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton.
Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.
Leonard died Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Avera Creighton Care Centre.
Leonard Stephen Prochaska, son of Steve and Minnie (Smolek) Prochaska, was born September 13, 1933, at Verdigre, Nebraska. He attended rural schools near Verdigre and Creighton and attended Niobrara High School. On September 29, 1957, Leonard was united in marriage to Delores Krugman at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. They were blessed with five daughters, Colleen Renae, Lori Lynette, Tammie Jo, Karla Kae, and Michelle Lynn.
Leonard lived near Verdigre and Creighton and also Camden, New Jersey for a short time as a child. Leonard worked for Norfolk Bridge, Art’s Auto as a mechanic, and Largen’s Manufacturing as a molder. After retirement he liked to work on bicycles, cars, mowers or anything with a motor that he could fix. He was a hard worker and kept his cars and lawn mowers in top running condition. He loved GMC cars, his GMC Suburban, and Chevy pickup. Leonard had a love for hunting and fishing, which he has passed on to his grandchildren. He especially liked bow hunting and being out in the woods looking for wildlife. He and Delores spent many winter days ice fishing. Leonard also liked to watch Nebraska football and volleyball. He was very patriotic and proud that he had a son-in-law, granddaughter, and grandson in the military. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Leonard loved seeing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Delores of Creighton, Nebraska; daughters, Colleen (Joe) Gilbert of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lori (Tom) Ehrenberg of Creighton, Karla (Tim) Nielsen of Creighton, and Michelle (Mike) Richards of McCook, Nebraska; son-in-law, Vance Munsell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren and12 great-grandchildren, Jackie (Jason) Freeman and their children Tiernee and Ty, Jesse Thomas and son Daxton, Joseph Gilbert, Jason (Devin) Ehrenberg and their children Marque, Xander, and Dakotah, Angela (Daniel) McElroy and their children James and Ben, Brian (Kayla) Munsell and their children Matthew and Oliver, Aaron (Jill) Nielsen, Doug (Amy) Munsell and their daughter Hayva Jo, Nicole (Chris) Schultz and their son Destin, Derek (Dylaina) Richards, Taylor Richards, Caeleb Richards, Carson Richards, Sierra Nielsen, and Mallory Nielsen; brother, James Prochaska of Cool Springs, Texas; and sister-in-law, Erna Krugman of Neligh, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tammie Jo Munsell; sisters, Marie (Joe) George, Marceline (Ira) Haynes Domsch, and Marguerite Beck; brothers, Joe (Lois) Prochaska, Tom Prochaska, and George Prochaska; brother-in-law, Lyle Krugman; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert (Frieda) Krugman.
