"Lee" George, Sr., age 98 of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Creighton, Nebraska, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Old Cheney Missionary Alliance Church in Lincoln. Pastor Jeff Petersen will officiate, with Graveside Services at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Cemetery at Creighton.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church in Lincoln.

Brockhaus Funeral Home of Creighton is in charge of arrangements.

Lee died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Legacy Terrace Assisted Living in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Leland Joseph George, son of Edward and Cora (Blair) George, was born June 27, 1916, at a farm home in rural Brunswick, Nebraska. Lee attended Creighton Public Schools in Creighton, Nebraska, where he graduated at age 16 with the Class of 1933. On September 10, 1939, Lee was married to Anna Kathryn Duffek at Creighton. The couple was blessed with two children: Leland, Jr., and Nan. Lee and Ann made their home in Creighton, Nebraska, where they operated George’s Clothes Shop until 1973. At that time, Lee became a realtor and appraiser, working in that profession until he was 80 years old. The only time that Lee wasn’t directly active in the Creighton business community between graduation and retirement was when he served his country in the United States Army. Lee was inducted in 1943 in the midst of World War II, and in 1944, was sent to the Philippines. Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge, Lee returned to Creighton, but due to being a member of the Reserves, was called again to serve during the Korean War, from 1950 until 1951.

Lee was a very active member of the Creighton community. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Creighton Chamber of Commerce, and for many years, was a volunteer member of the Creighton Fire Department. Lee was also a member of the Nebraska Association of Realtors and the Lueschen Birders Organization, based in Norfolk, Nebraska. In his free time, Lee loved photography.

Faith was a major part of Lee’s life, and for many years, he was a member of Grace Bible Church in Creighton. When Lee and Ann retired to Lincoln, Nebraska, they became members of the Old Cheney Alliance Church. The couple enjoyed their retirement in Lincoln, and after Ann’s death on July 30, 2012, Lee continued to call Lincoln his home until his death on July 12, 2014, at the age of 98. Lee was a man of integrity, principle, and quality, and gained the respect of countless people he did business with, or were fortunate enough to call him friend or family.

Lee is survived by his son, Lee (wife Sharon) George, Jr., of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughter, Nan (husband Lowell) Myers of Seward, Nebraska; grandchildren, Michelle and Mike Swanson of Durango, Colorado, Nathan and Heather Myers of Seward, Becky and Jeff Hackbart of Omaha, Nebraska, and Sarah George of Minneapolis; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Swanson, Mackenzie Myers, Jensyn Myers, Ben Myers, Riley Hackbart, and Chloe Hackbart.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 74 years, Anna Kathryn George; sister, Genevieve Winkley and her husband, Bob; sisters-in-law and their spouses, Sylvia Duffek, Alice and Lawrence Otradovsky, Georgia and Bud Huigens, and Marjorie and Bob Adams.
