Karen Faye Uhlir, daughter of Richard and Evelyn (Mott) Miller, was born October 3, 1938, at home in rural Walnut, Nebraska.

Karen died Sunday, January 3, 2016, at her residence.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Venus, Nebraska. Karen attended Osborne country school near her home. She and her brothers and sister walked across a pasture and crossed the North Branch Creek to and from school. Karen graduated from Verdigre High School in 1956, and attended Wayne State College to receive her Teacher's Certificate. She taught at District 93 School east of Verdigre, Mott School, Walnut School, and Stoney Butte School, all west of Verdigre.

Karen married her high school sweetheart, Arden Uhlir, on June 19, 1960. They were blessed with two children: Katherine Ann and Jeffrey Arden.

Arden and Karen were leaders of the Lucky Lads and Lassies 4-H Club for many years. She was also a member of the Stoney Butte Makers Extension Club and United Methodist Dorcas Circle. Karen worked for 16 years at Alpine Village and enjoyed the people at the home as well as the people she worked with.

Karen enjoyed showing cattle with her children and husband and helping with the 30 years of Simmental Bull Sales. Karen cooked many delicious meals and always made sure everyone had plenty to eat and was upset if you didn't take seconds.  Her grandchildren were very precious to her and she loved to spend time with her family. Her green thumb was very evident with all her beautiful plants and flowers.

Karen was a woman of strong faith and great love for her family.

Karen passed away peacefully in her sleep at home west of Verdigre on January 3, 2016, at the age of 77 years.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years Arden; daughter, Kathy and husband Mike Hrbek; son Jeff and wife Karla Uhlir; grandsons, Kyle and Cliff Dobias, and Lucas and Ethan Uhlir; granddaughters, Amber and husband, Matt Cole and Alexis and Morgan Hrbek; great-grandsons, Cohen, Carter, and Carson Cole and Gabriel Uhlir; brother, Curtis and JoEllen Miller of Norfolk; sister, Eileen Mattison of Hastings; and special relatives Jay and Helen Munderloh of Pender.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Evelyn Miller; brother, Douglas Miller; and brother-in-law, Neil and wife Barbara Uhlir.
