Funeral Services For Harriet Prosch

Funeral services for Harriet Prosch, age 96, of Bloomfield, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. Reverend Jacob Bobby will officiate, with burial in Bloomfield City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Harriet died Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Nye Legacy in Fremont, Nebraska.

Harriet Alice McFarlane Prosch, the tenth child and third daughter of Albert and Dora (Bruhn) McFarlane, was born December 22, 1919, at her parents rural farm home eight miles west of Bloomfield, Nebraska in Central Township.

She was baptized at Christ Memorial United Methodist Church in Bloomfield along with ten of her siblings on March 24, 1927, and was confirmed at First Trinity Lutheran Church by Pastor A. Ollenburg on March 17, 1940.

She attended rural elementary school District 66 for eight years and graduated salutatorian of her class at Bloomfield High School in 1937.

Harriet married Lyle Prosch on November 24, 1939, in Fremont at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran parsonage by Reverend William Bruggemann. Three children were born to this union: Terry, Allen, and Beverly.

Harriet and Lyle lived on a farm two miles north of Bloomfield from 1939, until they retired to a home in Bloomfield in 1991.

Harriet taught rural school for two years before her marriage and then took an active part in the farming operation. She was a farmer, housewife, mother, seamstress, gardener, avid reader, and lifelong learner. She was a member of First Trinity Ladies Aid, serving as president and secretary, as well as assisting with Vacation Bible School.

Harriet moved to Nye Legacy in Fremont, Nebraska in July 2015, and died October 13, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; son, Terry; grandson, Michael Terry Prosch; daughter-in-law, Anita (Erickson) Prosch; her parents, Albert and Dora McFarlane; parents-in-law, Arthur and Louise (Clausen) Prosch; seven brothers and their spouses, Chester and Bernice, Louis and Marie, Albert Jr. and Velma, Clarence and Irene, Herman and Laura, Wallace and Mildred, and George; four sisters, Dessie, Grace, Marjorie, and Marcella; brothers-in-law, Henry Wenke (Dessie), Melvin Pigman (Grace), Sanford Halleen (Marjorie), Richard Wearne (Marcella); sister-in-law and spouse, Velda and Robert Mitchell; and brother-in-law, Herbert Pabst.

Survivors include son, Allen and wife Kathaleen Prosch of Fremont; daughter, Beverly and husband Terry Newton of Lincoln; daughter-in-law, Patricia Prosch (Terry) of Marietta, GA; three grandchildren and spouses, Terri Ann (Jayme) Richards, Richard (Gina) Prosch, and Ryan (Nicolette) Newton; step-grandchildren, Scott Schaller and Tammie Harden; seven great-grandsons, Jonathon, Marcus, Michael, Robert, and Stephan Richards, Wyatt Prosch, and Landry Newton; six step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joyce (George) McFarlane and Vernette Pabst; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield.
