A Celebration of Life for Harold Doerr, age 92, of Bloomfield, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. Reverend Jacob Bobby will officiate with burial in Bloomfield City Cemetery.

Military Honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4996 and American Legion Post 249.

Brockhaus Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.

Harold died Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Osmond General Hospital in Osmond, Nebraska,

Harold Peter Doerr was born in rural Creighton, Nebraska on December 22, 1925, to Peter and Frieda (Martens) Doerr. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1943 and farmed with his parents until he was drafted for the Korean Conflict, where he served from 1951 until 1953 and attained the rank of sergeant.

He returned to farm and married Jean Rudebusch of Randolph on December 20, 1957. Harold and Jean farmed southwest of Bloomfield until they retired and moved to a home built by their son, Kent, in Bloomfield. As a child, he was a 4-H member and raised and sold purebred Chester White hogs.

Farming was Harold’s occupation, his passion and his hobby. An active member of the community, he delivered Meals on Wheels, was a member of Ruritan, served on the ASCS committee, sang in church and community choirs in Bloomfield and Verdigre, and played the omnicord and sang in musical jams at his winter home in Texas for 15 years. At age 70, he played softball and took up golfing. He celebrated his 90th birthday by skydiving.

Harold had a strong faith and was a daily Bible reader, completing the entire book every year for the last several years. He enjoyed travel to 50 states and 40 countries.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Brad (Deb), Kent (Shari), Amy (Tom), and Brian; brother, Wes; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harvey; and sisters, Elsie, Melba, Lois, Velma, and Arlene.

In lieu of flowers and memorials, the family requests doing a kind gesture for someone.
