Funeral services for Gerald Myers, age 91, of Creighton, Nebraska will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at Brockhaus Funeral Home. Reverend Larry Dohmen will officiate, with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in rural Creighton.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Gerald died Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Avera Creighton Care Centre.
Gerald L. Myers, son of George and Ethel (Smith) Myers, was born January 14, 1924, at Creighton, Nebraska. He graduated from Creighton High School and attended three years at Omaha Bible College, where he met his wife, Vida Hamilton, who also attended the Bible College. On March 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Vida, at Omaha, Nebraska. Three children were born to them: Carol, Diane, and Ronald.
Jerry and Vida lived in numerous places when they were first married. Their daughter, Carol, was born in Atlantic, Iowa. Daughter, Diane, was born in Plainview, Nebraska. And son, Ronald, was born in Gordon, Nebraska. They lived on Vida’s parents’ ranch for several years and helped her dad. Vida and Jerry moved to Creighton, Nebraska in 1965. They bought a farm four miles east and two miles north of Creighton where they settled. Jerry and Vida farmed here for many years, and raised cattle and hogs. He enjoyed taking care of his livestock. Jerry was a member of Norfolk Baptist Church. He had a deep faith in his God and served him in many ways. Jerry also had great love and commitment for his wife of 65 years. He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow up.
Jerry is survived by his children, Carol (Ron) Larson of Urbandale, Iowa, Diane (Vernon) Pospisil of Winnetoon, Nebraska, and Ronald (Becci) Myers of Blair, Nebraska; grandchildren, Aaron (Leah) Larson of West Des Moines, Iowa, Jessica (Erik) Moen of Urbandale, Iowa, Marcus (Abby) Pospisil of Omaha, Nebraska, Nathan Pospisil of Wayne, Nebraska, and Micaela, Morgan, and Macy Myers of Blair; great-grandchildren, Jaidan, Sadie, and Josie Moen, Emma, Eva, and Ethan Larson; brother, Donald (Sue) Myers; sister, Ruth Bennett; sisters-in-law, Jean (Eldred) Reeves, Rena (Fred) Capler, Wanda (Veldon) Morgan, Yvonne (Bill) Mooney, and Nellie Hamilton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vida; parents, George and Ethel Myers;
brothers and sisters, Florence Myers, Dorothy (Clarence) Zila, Milton (Lucille) Myers, Vera (Wendell) Strope, Gen (Clarence) Hall, and Junior Myers; parents-in-law, Frank and Ada Hamilton; brothers-in-law, Bruce Bennett, Alvin (Phyllis) Hamilton and Gerold Hamilton; and infant sister-in-law, Emma Jean.
