Funeral Services For Gene Jessen

​Funeral services for Gene Jessen, age 86, of Bloomfield, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. Reverend Terris Krueger will officiate, with burial at a later date at the devils nest.
 
Military Honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4996, American Legion Post 249, and Army National Guard Honor Guard.
 
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lindy, Nebraska.
 
Brockhaus Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
 
Gene died Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at his residence.
 
Gene Dale Jessen, son of John and Frieda (Steinike) Jessen, was born August 6, 1931, at his parent’s home. He graduated from Bloomfield High School. On September 24, 1958, Gene married Bette Ann Broders at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at Lindy, Nebraska. They were blessed with six children, Tim, Robin, Todd, Elizabeth, Michelle, and Shelby.
 
Gene was a farmer in the Lindy area. In 1960, he took over the management of the Devils Nest ranch when his dad retired.  In 1980, Gene quit farming to concentrate on cattle ranching.  At that time, he made conservation a priority for his prairie.  
 
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Lindy Country Club, and numerous other organizations in the Lindy and Bloomfield area.
 
Gene is survived by his children, Tim (Annie) Jessen of Niobrara, Robin Jessen-Ingram of Bloomfield, Todd (Kat) Jessen of Lone Grove, Oklahoma, Elizabeth Jessen of Lenox, Iowa, Michelle Driscoll of Omaha, and Shelby (Jeff) Nilsen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; thirteen grandchildren, Brandon (Keisha) Jessen, Logan (Minday) Jessen, Lindsay (Dan) Reinwald, Jake Jessen, Morgan Ingram, Cheyanne, Mariah, and Trevor Jessen, Garrett and Spencer Brown, Jackson and Delaney Driscoll, and Nash Nilsen; six great-grandchildren, Trey, Javon, Amirah, Phoenix, Breckyn, and Hailey; and siblings, Shorty (Thelma) Jessen of Bloomfield, Arlene Barnes of Bloomfield, Helen McCoy of Greely, Colorado, Janet (Norris) Gold of Diller, and Mary (Tom) Trenhaile of Bloomfield.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frieda Jessen; and his siblings, Herb Jessen, Marjorie Barnes, Lyle Jessen, Jack Jessen, Joan Case, and Alyce Sphon.
 
Family suggests memorials to Bloomfield Veterans Memorial Fund.
