Emily died Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Alpine Village in Verdigre, Nebraska.
Emily May (Lewis) Milacek, daughter of Frank and Vesta (Burger) Lewis, was born July 28, 1926, north of Monowi, Nebraska. She attended Monowi Public School and Lynch High School. After completing high school, Emily obtained her teaching certificate and taught country school east of Monowi and later south of Lynch. On March 6, 1948, Emily married her favorite dancing partner, Joe Milacek.
Emily and Joe began their life together farming around the Lynch area. In 1956, they moved to their farm north of Bristow. Emily was Joe’s farming partner, helping him in the field and with chores. She would help sow grain, milk cows, fix fence, and occasionally warm a cold calf on the porch.
Emily was a great cook and pie baker. With apples from the tree on the farm, she made many delicious pies for family and friends. Emily was a member of Spencer United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary Post 78 of Spencer. She enjoyed bowling and was on a league bowling team at Eagle Lanes in Lynch well into her 80’s, often attending the state bowling tournament.
Together with her husband, Joe, Emily attended various Czech celebrations, played cards, and went to their children’s and grandchildren’s events. She also was an avid reader and loved to travel. After retiring from the farm, Emily and Joe moved to Spencer. Later they moved to Springfield Assisted Living Center and finally to Alpine Village in Verdigre, Nebraska.
Thankful for having shared her life are her children, Shirley of Denver, Colorado, Leslie of San Diego, California, Alice (Lowell) Vanderlei of Springfield, South Dakota, and Phyllis (Al) Carter of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren, Jamie, Jody, Michael, Lisa, and Clarence; three great-grandchildren, Sammi, Josie, and Elowen; sister, Anna Kolar; and brother, Orval.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; daughter, Candice Jo; grandchildren, Joshua and Deborah; her parents; sister, Ruth; and daughter-in-law, Judy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Spencer American Legion Auxiliary.
