Memorial services for Elvira Jensen, age 90, of Creighton, Nebraska will be held at a later date. She has donated her body to science.

Elvira died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at Avera Creighton Care Centre.
Elvira Hannah Louise (Christensen) Jensen, daughter of Peter N. and Emma D. (Horstmann) Christensen, was born Sunday, February 12, 1928, on a farm north of Winnetoon, Nebraska. When she was three, her family moved to a farm west and north of Creighton, Nebraska, where she went to Alcott School for six years. Elvira’s family moved to a farm four miles west Winnetoon and she finished grade school. Elvira then attended high school in Creighton, graduating in 1946. Elvira received normal training and also took courses at Wayne State College during the summers. She taught in rural schools for 17 years.
On June 20, 1948, Elvira was united in marriage to Harold R. Jensen at Christ Lutheran Church in Bazile Mills, Nebraska. They lived north of Winnetoon for a year and a half after their marriage, and then bought a home in Winnetoon. Later, Elvira and Harold bought his parent’s home. In May of 1965, they adopted a baby girl, Dawn LaRae, who became a precious part of their lives. They brought her home from Neligh, Nebraska on their 17thwedding anniversary.
Elvira and Harold operated a septic business for 22 years. She also worked at various other jobs throughout her life. Elvira continued to live in Winnetoon until August 2003, when she moved to Creighton to reside at Bruce Park Terrace.
Elvira was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Bazile Mills in 1944, and remained a member there her entire life. She was active in the Ladies Aid of her church. Elvira became a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in 1958. While her daughter Dawn was involved in Special Olympics, Elvira was also involved as a leader and volunteer. She enjoyed baking breads, cookies, and kolaches for others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold on July 3, 2000; daughter, Dawn on January 21, 2000; her parents, Peter and Emma Christensen; and in-laws, Otto and Helen Jensen.
