Eldred died Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Neligh Care and Rehabilitation Center in Neligh, Nebraska. His body has been donated to science.

Eldred William Pitt was born March 21, 1930, at Crescent, Iowa to Glenn and Elsie (Rief) Pitt. El graduated from high school in Beebe Town, Iowa in 1947. He worked with his Dad on the family farm and then worked in construction in Council Bluffs, Iowa. From 1951 to 1953, El served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He spent most of his time in New Jersey teaching radio repair.

For twelve years El worked at the State Bank and Trust in Council Bluffs. For some years he worked in sales and also worked at the W.O.W. Building in Omaha part time, while he went to school to become a licensed stationery engineer. For fifteen years he was the engineer at Nashua Corp in Omaha.

Before El went into the service, he married Pat Stapleton and they had one son, Robert. Bobby died in 1977, at age 25.

El left Nashua in 1988, and spent two years traveling, and worked at Sawyer Airport in Phoenix. Back in Omaha, El took classes at Metro Community College and worked for American Security Company until 1996, when he retired.

On July 15, 1977, El married Rita Wagner and introduced her to an adventurous life. El was a traveler, always curious about things and different places. He loved nature and was in his glory when he was going somewhere. He loved to build, to repair, and to figure out how to do things. El was an avid reader. He enjoyed self-help books, poetry, philosophical, historical, and joke books.

El is survived by his wife, Rita of Creighton, Nebraska; sister, Glenda Ann Pitt of Glendale, Arizona; sister-in-law, Kay Pitt of Chandler, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Paul (Rita) Wagner; sisters-in-law, Marlene (Bob) Wilmes and Virginia Wagner.
