Funeral Services For Elaine Thelen

Funeral services for Elaine Marie (Forman) Thelen will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 16, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Reverend Frank Brink will officiate. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m., at Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery in Bazile Mills, Nebraska. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Home for Funerals.

Elaine passed away at her home in Norfolk Tuesday, July 12, 2016.
She was born on October 14, 1948, to Joe and Lottie (Hrbek) Forman at Orchard, NE. She attended K-8 grades at rural Knoxville School and graduated from Verdigre Public High School in 1966.

After graduation, she attended Norfolk Junior College graduating with an Associates of Arts Degree in 1968. The next couple of years were spent taking summer classes and correspondence courses from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Wayne State College. She taught elementary students at Bazile Mills, Hoskins, and Clearwater, NE.


On August 2, 1969, she married Lyle Thelen at Bloomfield, NE. She was baptized, confirmed and married at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. She was currently a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Elaine was a member for over 50 years of the Western Fraternal Life Association.


In September 1977, Elaine started working at Norfolk Daily News until her retirement in October 2013. She considered the Daily News as her second family. She dearly loved her job and the friendship of many co-workers.


Her special love was for her over 50 nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews.


Elaine is survived by her husband of over 46 years, Lyle, her brothers, Jerome (Sandra) Forman, of Verdigre, Donald (Connie) Forman, of Verdigre, James (Kathy) Forman, of O’Neill, and Dennis Forman, of Verdigre; sisters, Noreen Conrad, of Norfolk, Norma Forman, of Norfolk, Betty (Kevin) Boggs, of Winnetoon. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Janice (Dale) Kirschenman, of Yankton, SD, Norma (Lyle) McDonald, of Plainview, and Ruth Ann (Dave) Sullivan, of Yankton, SD; brother-in-law, Merl (Linda) Thelen, of Norfolk, aunts; Martha Beckmann and Evelyn Beckmann, both of Bloomfield.


​She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lottie Forman, and a sister in infancy, Donna Jean.
