Mass of Christian Burial for Edna K. Burns, age 97, of Creighton, Nebraska, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton.  Reverend Jeff Lorig will be Celebrant, with burial in St. Ludger Catholic Cemetery in Creighton.

Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton, with a 7:00 p.m. Wake service.

Edna passed away very peacefully at the Avera Creighton Care Centre on Friday, April 22, 2016, in Creighton, Nebraska, surrounded by her family members.

Edna Katherine (Fuchtman) Burns was born on her parent's farm on December 2, 1918, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Schula) Fuchtman, the fifth of twelve children.  She attended St. Ludger Academy and graduated in 1936. After graduation Edna worked at the court house in Center, Nebraska and at the Creighton Creamery doing bookkeeping. Edna was united in marriage by Reverend Father Windolph to John Burns on February 5, 1940, at St. Ludger Catholic Church.

John and Edna owned and operated the Creighton Cleaners for many years. She belonged to many organizations of which she held various positions. They were The Royal Neighbors of America, the American Legion Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America and St. Ludger Altar and Rosary Society.
Edna was honored for her many years for being a member of the church choir and for cantoring at mass.  She attended daily mass as often as time permitted.  Her strong faith and belief in her religion made her the wonderful, loving and strong person we all admired and loved. She devoted her life to God, but her greatest pleasure was taking care of her son, Bobby.

Edna and John were blessed with nine children, Dee Ann (Larry) Meyer, Edward (Marilyn) Burns, Doug (Vicki) Burns  all of Omaha, Nebraska, Norma (Peter) Spokowski of Providence Forge, Virginia, Robert (Bobby) Burns, Jackie (Bob) Falter of Ely, Iowa, Dwight “Pest” (Dianne) Burns of Olathe, Kansas, Jeff (fiancee, Linda) Burns of Norfolk, Nebraska and Tim (Pat) Burns of Lincoln, Nebraska; There are 25 grandchildren,  41 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, three step-grandchildren, and 11 step-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include brothers, Joe (Irene) Fuchtman, Edwin (Theresa) Fuchtman; sisters, Margaret Focht, Sister Kathleen Fuchtman, Florence Hasenpflug; and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Fuchtman.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Bobby; her parents; five brothers; and one sister.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Avera Creighton Care Centre or St. Ludger Catholic Church.
