Funeral Services For Donald Utecht

Mass of Christian Burial for Donald Utecht, age 93, of Bloomfield, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Bloomfield. Reverend Michael Schmitz will be Celebrant, with burial in Bloomfield City Cemetery.

Military Honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4996, American Legion Post 249, United States Navy Honor Guard, and American Legion Riders.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. Wake Service.

Brockhaus Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.

Donald died Friday, June 24, 2016, at his residence.

Donald Albert Utecht, son of Adolph R. and Anna W. (Claussen) Utecht, was born October 30, 1922, at his parent’s farm southwest of Bloomfield, Nebraska. Donald attended Stein Country School near his family home. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 until 1946. Donald was stationed in the Pacific Theatre during the war. On January 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Irene M. Brockhaus at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, Nebraska. Three children were born to them: Theodore Donald, Timothy Donald, and Mary Irene.

Donald spent his entire life in Knox County, farming in the Bloomfield area, except for his years in the Navy. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Bloomfield. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

Donald died at his home north of Bloomfield on June 24, 2016, at the age of 93 years, seven months, and 24 days.

Donald is survived by his wife, Irene of Bloomfield, Nebraska; sons, Theodore Utecht of Eureka, California and Timothy (Karen) Utecht of Plainview, Nebraska; daughter, Mary (Jeff) Clayton of Columbus, Nebraska; three grandsons; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; four great-granddaughters; and one sister, Pauline Nelson of Burlington, Washington.

​He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; two brothers; and one brother in infancy.
