Don served in the United States Army for two years from February of 1953 until February of 1955. He was stationed in Germany for eighteen and a half months. Don married Gladys Carlson on February 17, 1956, at Thabor Lutheran Church in Wausa. They shared 60 happy years together.
Don and Gladys lived on farms in the Wausa area until 1980 when they moved into Wausa. In April of 1991, he purchased Kent Feed, which is still open for business, coffee drinking, and visiting.
