Comments

Memorial services for Donald D. Erickson, age 83 of Wausa, Nebraska, will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Thabor Lutheran Church in Wausa, Nebraska.  Reverend Derrick Fallon will officiate, with burial at a later date.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Brockhaus Funeral Home of Wausa is in charge of arrangements.

Don died Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.

Donald DeMar Erickson was born to Roy and Vivian (Carlson) Erickson on July 24, 1932, on a farm near Bloomfield, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Covenant Church. Don served in the United States Army for two years from February of 1953 until February of 1955. He was stationed in Germany for eighteen and a half months. Don married Gladys Carlson on February 17, 1956, at Thabor Lutheran Church in Wausa. They shared 60 happy years together.

Don and Gladys lived on farms in the Wausa area until 1980 when they moved into Wausa. Don worked for Wausa Feed Service, Carhart Lumber in Bloomfield, Wausa Community Auditorium as custodian, and Claussen Grain. In April of 1991, he purchased Kent Feed, which is still open for business, coffee drinking, and visiting.

Don spent many happy summers playing softball and baseball. Several years he was chosen to play on the all star baseball team. Don was a very kind and caring person who enjoyed life, visiting with his friends, and was happiest when he was helping others.

Don is survived by his wife, Gladys; brothers, Duane (Glynus) Erickson and Lowell (MaryLou) Erickson; sisters, Lorelei Belt, Yvonne (Don) Carlson, Betty (Eldon) Fink, Glenda (Dennis) Bryant, Anita Lambie, and Janet Chapman; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Vivian Erickson; and brothers-in-law, Monte Lackas, LeRoy Benson, Larry Lambie, Olin Belt, and Jere Chapman.
