Funeral Services Announced For Kenneth Chapman

Funeral services for Kenneth R. Chapman, age 76 of Niobrara, Nebraska, will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Oyate Oyanke Community Center in Santee, Nebraska. Pastor John McNeill will officiate with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in Santee.

Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post #4832 and American Legion Post #224 of Niobrara.

Visitation will begin Monday at 4:00 p.m. and continue until service time at the Oyate Oyanke Community Center in Santee, with a 7:00 p.m. Wake Service Monday night.

Brockhaus Funeral Home of Niobrara is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth died Friday, June 27, 2014, at Avera Creighton Hospital.

Kenneth R. Chapman, son of Herman Sr. and Grace (Williams) Chapman, was born on February 17, 1938, at the family home at Howe Creek, Nebraska. Kenneth attended Center School in Center, Nebraska, and later attended college where he earned his Doctorate in Psychology. On September 23, 1996, Kenneth was married to Beverly Picotte at Center.

Although he lived many places during his life, Kenneth returned to his childhood area in Howe Creek, where he spent the past two decades. Kenneth served his country in the United States Air Force, later becoming a member of VFW Post 4832 and American Legion Post 224, both of Niobrara. Kenneth had several careers, which included serving as Director of the Food Distribution Program in Santee, was a farmer, was a counselor for substance abuse, served as vice-chair for several organizations, and was a previous council member. He was also a member of the Nebraska Indian Commission. Kenneth was a member of the Springfield Community Bible Church in Springfield, South Dakota. He died Friday, June 27, 2014, at the Avera Creighton Hospital in Creighton, Nebraska, attaining the age of 76 years, four months, and 10 days.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Beverly Chapman of rural Niobrara, Nebraska; daughter, Sheila Chapman of Garden Grove, California; brothers, John Chapman of rural Niobrara, and Donald Chapman of Zuni, New Mexico; sister, Elizabeth Hamilton of Santee, Nebraska; granddaughters, Samantha Chapman of California, and Shirley Chapman of California; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Troy Chapman and Kenneth Chapman, Jr.; brothers, Douglas, Herman Jr., and Elmer; sisters, Delores Cutts, Gloria Brown, Patricia Chapman, Constance Chapman, and Carol Chapman; nephew, Todd Chapman; and niece, Cheryl Cutts.
