Friday night went well for the Niobrara/Verdigre boys but not so well for the girls.

The girls opened the night with a tough loss to Elgin Public/Pope John, 66-26.

The Wolfpack used a suffocating defense and a quick transition offense to keep the Cougars on their heels all night long. They jumped out to a huge lead going into the halftime break, leading Niobrara/Verdigre 46-13. The second half wasn't any more kind to the Cougars as they mustered just 13 more points on the night.

Sophomore Allyson Wemhoff led the Wolfpack attack, scoring 22 and dishing out four assists. Baylee Wemhoff and Liz Selting each added 15 for EPPJ, with Wemhoff adding six assists and Selting bringing in 10 rebounds and five assists.

Statistics for the Cougars were unavailable as of this story.

In the second game of the night, the boys hoped to find success and did just that. Using skilled guard play and a considerable size advantage, the Cougars dominated the Wolfpack on the way to a 72-36 win. The Wolfpack mustered a 11:23 steals to assist ratio, courtesy of a strong full-court press from Niobrara/Verdigre's quick guards.

Senior Chad Bode led the Wolfpack offensively, shooting five for eight from the field on his way to 14 points. He also led EPPJ with seven rebounds. Kenny Bush and Hunter Reestman each added seven points. Bush pulled down three rebounds and dished out three assists while Reestman accounted for five rebounds. Freshman Conor Ramold added five more rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Wolfpack.

Statistics for the Cougars were unavailable as of this story.

The Wolfpack now take a few days off before hosting Neligh-Oakdale Tuesday night. For Niobrara/Verdigre, they turn their attention to St. Mary's Tuesday night.
