On May 3, 2018 at about 6:23 a.m. the Knox County Sheriff’s Office investigated a one vehicle non-injury accident ¼ mile West of the Standing Bear Bridge on Hwy 12. A 2015 Chevy Malibu was Eastbound when it crossed into the Westbound lane and collided with the north guardrail. The vehicle then skidded out of control, crossed back into Eastbound lane and collided with the south guardrail. The driver was identified as David Allen Henry, Jr. of Niobrara. The driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of alcohol. Niobrara Fire and Rescue along with the Santee Fire and Rescue provided traffic control at the scene until Moody Motors could tow the vehicle away. The vehicle is considered a total loss. Nebraska Department of Transportation repaired approximately 288 feet of guardrail.
On May 3, 2018 the Knox County Sheriff’s Office investigated a property damage incident at the Jesse Krupicka farm along Hwy 14 south of Niobrara. It appears that a semi tractor-trailer drove onto the property and caused damage to a corral panel and the lean-to on a building. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone with information about this incident call the office at (402) 288-4261.
