Wortman, Zimmerer Keep State Wrestling Hopes Alive

Derek Wortman and Bryce Zimmerer picked up key wins on Friday morning to keep their state wrestling hopes alive. Both Creighton wrestlers advanced to the third round of consolations and are one win away from securing a state medal.

At 138 pounds, Wortman won by tech fall over Paul Gubbels of Osmond in 2:22. At 145, Zimmerer picked up a 3-0 win over Noah Scott of Randolph. Both Bulldogs will take the mat during the third round of consolations on Friday night. 

At 106 pounds, Cody Hanvey ended the season with a 16-9 decision against Kent Rae of Elwood. At 160 pounds. Brady Wortman was pinned by Elkhorn Valley's Brock Schaecher in 2:40 to end his season. Levi Stacken (170) lost a 9-4 decision against Matthew Pearson of Cambridge in the first round of consolations. 

Also wrestling Friday night are semifinalists Connor Hazen and Zac Hazen. Both wrestlers have guaranteed medals.
