John Novicki just went for it.
Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the tenth, Novicki made his way around the bases to third for the Creighton Seniors. A routine groundout by Crofton seemed to keep Novicki in check, but when the throw was made to first, he took off for him, scoring and sealing Creighton's trip to the state tournament.
Crofton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third thanks to an RBI single by Noah McFarland. Creighton returned the favor two innings later, scoring two runs on an Austin Diedrichson single.
Creighton took their first lead of the game in the top of the sixth, plating one run. In the bottom of the seventh, however, Crofton brought in one run of their own to send the game into extra innings.
The score stayed static all the way until Novicki's late game heroics. The win gives Creighton the Class C Area 1 championship and sends them to the state tournament in Ainsworth. They will take on the winner of the Class C Area 6 tournament on Saturday at 10 a.m.
