Funeral services for Gilbert Braunsroth, age 87, of Bloomfield, Nebraska were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2017, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Reverend Deb Valentine will officiate, with burial in Bloomfield City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday at 9:00 a.m. at the church.
Brockhaus Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
Gilbert died Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society in Bloomfield.
Gilbert G. Braunsroth, son of Fred and Bertha (Tews) Braunsroth, was born May 10, 1930, at his family’s farm northwest of Lindy, Nebraska. Gilbert graduated from Bloomfield Public Schools in 1947. While in school he was active in 4-H and played the saxophone in the band. On November 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Arline Hall at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bloomfield.
He was baptized on December 11, 1948, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
He farmed with his father and began feeding cattle on the family farm north of Bloomfield. Gilbert started trucking in 1950, when he bought his first truck. He and Arline started Braunsroth Trucking, Inc. in 1973. Together with his wife they operated a Wayne Feed dealership and earned trips to Hawaii and Switzerland. Gib retired and moved into Bloomfield in 2003.
Gilbert was a member of St. Mark’s Wedded Circle, Knox County Feeders Association, National Cattleman’s Association, Bloomfield Lions Club, Elks Lodge in Yankton, and Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce.
Gilbert is survived by his children, Gerre (Jack) Campbell, Beckie (Keith) Rowley, Craig Braunsroth, all of Bloomfield, Nebraska, Sharol (Jim) Wilson of Lawton, Iowa, Yvonne Braunsroth of Bloomfield; 18 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Judy (Dennis) Wiseman of Littleton, Colorado; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arline Hall Braunsroth; parents, Fred and Bertha Braunsroth; sister, Joanne and brother-in-law, Delbert Johannsen; granddaughter, Kathryn Braunsroth; grandson, Kelly Campbell; great-grandson, Branden Christman; and great-granddaughter, Mary Rowley.
